Bear Mountain Wildlife Event
The Bear Mountain Wildlife Committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make our May 5th Wildlife Evening such a meaningful and successful community event.
First and foremost, we would like to recognise and thank the incredible volunteers who dedicated their time, energy, and passion to organising this event: Jennifer Steel, Marilyn Walker, Mohammad Tabaiean, Cyrus Lim, and Manuela Marinello. Community initiatives like this are only possible through the efforts of volunteers who genuinely care about creating positive change.
We would also like to sincerely thank our guest speakers for sharing their knowledge, experience, and perspectives with the community:
Mollie Cameron from Wild Wise Society
Councillor Colby Harder from the City of Langford
Conservation Officer Sgt. Scott Norris
Their presentations helped create thoughtful and constructive conversations around wildlife coexistence, community responsibility, prevention, education, and practical ways residents can help reduce human-wildlife conflict.
One of the most encouraging moments of the evening came from Conservation Officer Sgt. Scott Norris, who remarked that over the past two years there has been a noticeable decrease in human-wildlife conflict in the Bear Mountain area. This is an incredibly positive reflection of what community education, awareness, and respectful engagement can achieve when delivered in the right way. It reinforces the idea that meaningful change happens when communities work together with a shared sense of responsibility and care.
We would also like to thank every resident and community member who attended the event. The turnout exceeded expectations, with a very strong public response and excellent participation throughout the evening. The thoughtful questions, respectful discussions, and genuine interest shown by attendees demonstrated how much this topic matters to our community.
This event was not the success of one individual or organization alone, it was truly a collective community effort. From volunteers and speakers to residents, local organizations, and public officials, everyone played an important role in helping foster a more informed, compassionate, and wildlife-aware community.
The Bear Mountain Wildlife Committee looks forward to continuing these conversations and building even stronger connections between residents, local organizations, and wildlife professionals in the future.
