Living with Wildlife on Bear Mountain
Bear Mountain is home to an extraordinary range of wildlife. From black bears and cougars to deer, eagles, owls, and many smaller species, our community sits within a rich natural ecosystem.
The Bear Mountain Wildlife Committee was created by the Bear Mountain Community Association (BMCA) to promote education, awareness, and respectful coexistence between residents and the wildlife that share this landscape.
Our goal is simple: help residents understand wildlife, stay safe, and protect the natural environment that makes Bear Mountain unique.
Bear Mountain Wildlife Committee
The Bear Mountain Wildlife Committee is a volunteer-led initiative focused on community education and responsible coexistence with wildlife.
Objectives include:
- Promoting wildlife awareness and safety education
- Sharing reliable information about local wildlife species
- Supporting Bear Smart practices within the community
- Encouraging responsible behaviour that protects both residents and wildlife
- Helping residents understand how to respond to wildlife encounters

Living Responsibly with Wildlife
Key Bear Smart practices:
- Never feed wildlife
- Secure garbage and recycling
- Clean outdoor cooking areas
- Do not leave pet food outside
- Supervise pets when outdoors
- Harvest fruit from trees when ripe
Reporting Wildlife Sightings
Residents can report dangerous wildlife encounters to the BC Conservation Officer Service (see info at the bottom of the page)
General sightings may also be shared with the Bear Mountain Wildlife Committee: bmwildlifecommittee@gmail.com
The committee welcomes residents interested in helping promote wildlife awareness and education in the community.
Volunteers may help with education initiatives, events, research, outreach, and Bear Smart awareness.
