Volunteer for the PGA Champions Tour Championship Sept 19 – 25th

Dear residents of Bear Mountain,

For the very first time, the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Champions Tour will hold an event here at Bear Mountain Golf Club and Academy, on our Mountain Course, from September 19th to the 25th.  This Pacific Links Championship will be a 54 hole (3 round) tournament that will host some of the best golfers in the world competing for a purse of $US 2.5 million and will require the help of some 500 volunteers in a wide variety of functions.

The Bear Mountain Community Association (BMCA) has been chosen to Adopt Hole #14, a Par 3 on the Mountain Course, and invites you to become a marshal for that hole, which will receive worldwide television coverage.  This is a wonderful opportunity for residents of Bear Mountain to come together and represent your Community Association on the international stage and have fun doing it on one of the most picturesque golf holes in Canada.

In a nutshell, marshals need some knowledge of golf as well as golf etiquette.  Marshall responsibilities will include providing crowd control and enforcing golf etiquette among spectators so that play is not disturbed.  Marshals should be physically fit enough to work shifts of up to six hours, much of it standing.  Tournament organizers are working towards a solution for transporting volunteers to their assigned holes, particularly those that are further away such as #14.

All volunteers will be required to purchase the Volunteer Package, which costs $49.00 and which covers a portion of the cost of the uniform as well as enabling the tournament’s organization to contribute to local charities in our community.  The Volunteer Package includes:

  • Volunteer credentials which allow access to the Championship Grounds from Wednesday the 21st through to Sunday the 25th;
  • Two (2) transferable “Good-Any-One-Day” tickets to the Pacific Links Championship allowing access to the grounds on any one day;
  • A high quality official Pacific Links Championship golf shirt;
  • A high quality official Pacific Links Championship outerwear garment;
  • An official Pacific Links Championship golf cap or visor;
  • A souvenir programme;
  • Vouchers for a continental breakfast & lunch on the days volunteered;
  • Complimentary parking; and
  • An invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Party that will be hosted after the conclusion of play on Sunday the 25th of September.
