Brad Maclaren


Born and raised in Victoria, Brad Maclaren has become a leader in his community. Brad and his family have been a part of the Westshore community of Bear Mountain since 2007, where they have developed many relationships and formed the Bear Mountain Community Association (BMCA). Brad is currently serving as the president of BMCA, where his passion for preserving the structure and integrity of Bear Mountain’s golf course has earned him admiration amongst many community leaders and residents.

For the past 13 years, Brad has worked as a realtor, where he has built a business based on trust, integrity and strong negotiation skills. He has been an annual recipient of the Multiple Listing Services (MLS) gold award and is well respected amongst his colleagues.

In addition to being a realtor with Sotheby’s International Canada, Brad has served on many boards including, Saanich Parks and Recreation, Cedar Hill Golf Course, and is currently serving as a director for the Westshore Chamber of Commerce. Brad’s business knowledge and expertise will be utilized to garner future business for the Westshore.

Joanne Maclaren


Joanne was born and raised in Victoria, BC and moved to the Westshore in 1990. She is a Registered Nurse of 28 years, with 15 years of progressive leadership experience and is currently the Director of Professional Practice with Island Health. She also has many years of experience serving on various volunteer boards and has instilled in her children that giving back to your community is the right thing to do.
Bear Mountain is the little piece of paradise Joanne and her family have called home for the past 12 years. Joanne loves the sense of community on the mountain and is passionate to preserve the golf course and see the Bear Mountain development grow and flourish.

Bill Stafford


Bill has lived in Victoria since he was 6 years old. He and his wife Liz moved up to Bear Mountain in July of 2013. Bill was the founder of Lionheart Tax Services and successfully sold his business to H&R Block in December 2009. Since then, Bill has developed Cheques & Balances Bookkeeping servicing the small business community in Victoria and looks after several personal tax clients.
Bill is a former Board of Directors member of the Victoria Shamrocks serving from 1995 through 2005 as a director, treasurer and secretary from time to time. Bills hobbies and interests include (in no particular order) chess, golf, scotch and gardening.
Bill loves the beauty and splendor of Victoria, and Bear Mountain in particular.

Louis Barbeau


Louis was an Officer in Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry from 1961 until his retirement in 1984, having served his Regiment in Canada, the Middle East and in Europe. In 1984, he joined the United Nations High Commission for Refugees with postings and missions in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia until his retirement from the United Nations in 1996.
In 1996, Louis settled in Cedarhill Estates in Ottawa where, for four years, he was President of the Cedarhill Community Association. In late 2001, Louis moved to Shoal Point in the Inner Harbour of Victoria where, for four years, he was Chairman of the Building Committee.
Original members of Bear Mountain Golf and Country Club, having joined on the 10th of January 2003, Yvette and Louis built a house on Bearspaw Plateau on Bear Mountain and moved there late 2006. He has been Secretary Treasurer of Bearspaw Strata since October 2007.

Brian Johnston


Brian Johnston received a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1969. A career path primarily in petroleum engineering followed with a variety of assignments in a number of different locations.
Most relevant to the BMCA, in 1994, Brian was elected to the Board of Directors of the Country Hills Golf Club in Calgary and served the maximum allowed 3 consecutive 2 year terms during its formative years. Over most of this period he was Construction Chairman, initially for the design of the 4th nine holes that opened in 1996, some 2 years after funding was secured by agreement with a residential development organization through whose land the course layout winds, then later for the 45,000 square foot 3 story hillside clubhouse that opened in 2000. His role involved considerable Interaction with the many different stakeholders including those in the regulatory process for the City of Calgary.
Brian has now settled in the Bear Mountain Community and enjoys playing golf as often as possible.
